06/28/2008 - Saturday
4550 Verona Rd
Natural Gas Leak

Natural Gas Leak St. 222, 225, & 221 were alerted for a reported Gas Well Leaking across from Ace Auto Wreckers. 221 AC arrived on scene reporting the well actively leaking. 222 EN arrived with 222 Chief taking Command. 221 SVC & 225 ENG arrived blocking traffic at Lincoln & Verona Rd. Another report of a leaking well was reported in the area of Lime Hollow & Coal Hollow adding 227 to the assignment. 222 RQ was diverted to that location with 227 RQ. Huntley & Huntley Gas was notified and responding. 222 RQ also checked the well in the area of Don Kuhn Auto Body on Sandy Creek for a reported leak as well. Crews were able to get the wells shut down with some technical assistance by Huntley & Huntley over he Phone with Command. A few homes were evacuated intially until the wells were secured, but allowed to return shortly after. All crews returned in service.

10525 Frankstown Rd.( GetGo)
Vehicle Fire

Stations 225,227,221 were alerted to Get Go for a reported Vehicle Fire Endangering the Structure and Next to a Fuel Pump. Eng 225, and Eng 227 First scene with a vehicle Fully Involved. 225 Lieut Cancelled All Other units. Crews had the Fire Under control. Crews made a fast Knock on the fire with Only Smoke damage to the Structure. Units Operated on scene for about 30 min. Great Job Guys!

Frankstown Rd. @ Coal Hallow Rd.
Assist Police With Fatal Shooting

In the early morning hours of Thursday, Stations 227 and 225 were alerted to assist police with a shooting/vehicle accident at the intersection of Frankstown Rd & Coal Hollow Rd.  While en route Rescue 227 was updated by 911 dispatchers of the severity of the current situation.  227 Assistant-2 requested another rescue company for back up bringing Station 222 to the call.  Rescue 227 assisted police and medics with gaining access to the patient but due multiple gun shot wounds the patient succumbed to his injuries.  All other units were cancelled.  EN-225 assisted police at one location of the crime scene while Rescue 227 worked the other location of the crime scene.  Units were on scene for 3 hours. Then Later in the morning Station 225 was reactivated to respond and Assist PHPD once again.

Robinson Blvd.
Tractor Trailer Fire

At approx. 12:30am Station 225 was alerted for a Tractor Trailer on fire in the parking lot of Peitra Ministries on Robinson Blvd. County Communications advise multiple call coming in reporting a Fully involved tractor Trailer. Chief 225 Advise it could be seen form Station 225. 225 Eng First on scene reported a Fully involved Tractor Trailer. Chief 225 with Command. While units started Extinguishing the fire Command requested Station 221 to the scene for their spill unit due to ruptured saddle tanks. 221 Eng and 221 Serv arrived and handled the containment while 225 Units finished extinguishment and wrapping up. Units Operated on scene for about 40min.

Penn Hills Station 225 would like to say good luck to our brother fire fighter Nick Gigliotti from Penn Hills No.3.  Nick leaves for Iraq the week of May 19th and will spend one year over seas.  Thank you for fighting for our freedom.  Good Luck, Stay Safe, and Come Home Soon!!!

Accident With Possible Entrapment

In the early hours of Monday morning stations 227, 223, 225 were alerted for a vehicle into a pole with possible entrapment.  While Rescue 227 was en route along with 225 EN, 911 dispatchers informed them that there was no entrapment but the utility pole needed checked.  Rescue 227 checked utility pole and returned to service, St.223 handled spill pick-up.

05/04/2008 - Sunday
Gardenia Dr.
Hazardous Materials Call

Sunday morning, shortly before 9:00am, Stations 227, 223, 225 were alerted for a unknown type odor in the a structure with illness in the 11500 block of Gardenia Dr.  EN-227-1 arrived on scene and assisted one patient to the waiting medics and crews began their investigation.  Crews from 227 & 223 located the source and began moving the chemicals outside of the structure. Crews were on scene ventilating the structure for about 30mins.

Frankstown Rd. @ Wilson
Transformer and Hot Wires Down

Station 225 was alerted for the report of a Utility pole down with Hot wire Sparking. 225 EN arrived on Scene with 225 TK seconds Behind. Units found Numerous live wires down with Four Transformers. Crews also Encountered Numerous Small Fires Due to the Live Wires. Chief 225 Took Command and Had 223 Added for their Spill units due to the oil leaking from the Transformers. DQ Light was notified. Frankstown Rd and Wilson Dr. were both Shut down to all Traffic. While units were awaiting the Arrival of the Light Company. Several other call came in due to the Outage. Units were Notified for 10960 Frankstown RD. ( the Granger House) due the the Facility housing Elderly People some on Medical Equipment. Assistance was need to move Patients due to the Facility not having power. While units were Operating both of these calls yet another was Struck For Betty Jane Ct. for a Large Controlled Burn.. Units Investigated and Returned to further Assist Frankstown Rd. Command.. Station 221 Was then added to the call for their spill units due to the Large Amount of oils on the Road ways. Units Worked on Scene for about 2hours.

Ozan Way
Vehicle Fire

In the early morning hours Approx 01:00 Hours. Stations 221 and 225 were alerted for Blackadore Ave for a reported Vehicle on Fire. Additional callers reported the fire to be on Ozan Way. 225 EN 1 Arrived on scene followed by SER 221  to find a passenger car Fully Involved. Crew from 225 EN Extinguished the fire. Units Operated on scene for Approx. 30 minutes.

04/28/2008 - Monday
428 Hochberg Road
Residential Structure Fire

Stations 225 & 221 were alerted for reported Structure Fire. 225 EN1 arrived on scene finding a Space Heater had caught a Mattress on Fire, Requested assistance removing the mattress. 225 TK and 221 EN1 called en route. Crews removed and extinguishing the mattress and other debris that was on fire. Ventilation was started. 225 TK arrived and assisted. 225 Chief  held the units on scene and returned all others. Units operated approx. 30 minutes and returned in service.

Woods Rd @ Dersam St.
Residential Structure Fire

Stations 225,221 were alerted for a unknown type fire in the area of Woods Rd. @ Desam St.. while in route with smoke visible from stations 225 and 221 and Additional calls coming into County Communications advising it was a fully involved Structure with Fire thru the Roof.. Station 227 was then added to the Assignment. On the Arrival of 225 E the structure was in the City of Pgh on Parkway Ave. PBF was on scene starting the Attack. All units were Cancelled by 225 Chief and the fire was Being handled by PBF. All Units returned.

04/16/2008 - Wednesday
257 Suncrest Dr.
Structure Fire

St. 221, 225, 227 alerted for possible structure fire at 257 Suncrest Dr. 227 Eng 1 arrived on scene reporting a moderate smoke condition on first floor. Additional units arrived on scene and began investigation. Crews used several TIC's and Heat Gun. Crews were unable to locate any fire. Utilities were requested. Meter was pulled on outside of house and all mains were pulled as well. Crews noticed a blow fuse in panel. Crews also found a build up of heat on first floor wall and used hand tools to make a investigation hole, nothing was found. Duq Light and EQT Gas on scene as well as 516 FM1. Duq Light checked situation and advised home owner to contact electrician to inspect and repair the home wiring. EQT Gas shut off meter and tagged the Residence. Red Cross was notified for Home Owner for shelter. Units ventilated structure with a PPV from TK225. The cause that was later attributed to an over loaded electrical outlet in a bathroom. All units cleared the scene.

04/10/2008 -Thursday

St. 221, 225, and 222 were operating at the Structure Fire on Dollman Rd. when a second call came in for a vehicle fire. Command released 221 EN2, 222 EN1, and 225 TK to respond. 221 EN2 arrived on scene with a working vehicle fire followed by 225 TK. Command released 222 EN1 and Crews on scene would handle extinguishing the fire. All units returned in service in about 30 minutes.

7918 Dollman Rd.
04/10/2008 -Thursday

St. 225 was alerted for a reported Electrical Fire in the Hallway, and the resident was reporting the fire to be extinguished. While 225 EN1 was enroute they were updated that another caller reporting fire thru the roof. St. 221 was added on the box. 225En1 arrived shortly after reporting heavy smoke and fire from the roof, requesting TK225 to take a plug at Ivyland and Dollman. 221 EN1 was enroute as well as 221 Chief. 221 Crews arrived and assisted the 225 Crews already working. 222 RIT was then added to the box for RIT Operations. 222 RIT was requested to set up in side yard and have there additional crews ladder the building. All Utilities and 516 FM1 were notified. Fire was under Control and crews were going into Overhaul Mode. Overhaul and Ventilation were completed. FM1 arrived on scene for investigation. Red Cross was also alerted to assist the Family. Units began returning as they picked up. While units were still operating and 2nd call was struck in the 225th for a Vehicle Fire. 221 EN1, 222 EN1 and 225 TK handled the detail.
