Companies were alerted for a Porch on Fire. PHPD arrived updating Smoke from the 2nd Division Possibly a Bed Room with everyone out of the Residence. Preconnects pulled from 221 SQ with crews from 221 and 122 into the first and Second Floors. 225 Truck laid 800' of Supply line to 221 SQ. 225 Capt. took Operations. Crews Found Heavy Fire in the Basement. Fire was undercontroll in just under 45 min. Crews operated for some time with extensive overhaul and Clean up. Fire Marshall is Investigating.
The 225th as well as every other Penn Hills Fire Dept were extremly busy Friday and Saturday During the Winter Storm. Station 225 Ran Multiple Calls through out the night and Days. Below is a list of just some of the incidents 225 ran on over the duration of the Storm.
Companies alerted for a possible carbon monoxide problem in a residence. Resident reporting to dispatch that they had an earlier grease fire and now believe to have a CO problem as a result. RQ227 arrived on scene and found no CO readings on their meter. All units were returned into service.
Station 221,225,and 222 were alerted to Mt. Carmel @ Blackadore for a reprted Vehicle Accident with one Vehicle on Fire.. PHPD arrived updating units of a 2 Vehicle MVC with negative entrapment and one vehicle with a Good Engine compartment Fire.. 221 Sq Arrived and went to work, followed by 225 En. Command held the assignment to 221 and 225 returning 222. Units operated on scene for about 35 min with exstiguishment and clean up.
Units alerted for an automatic fire alarm at the Penn Hills Cinemas. Shortly after dispatch, alarm company called back reporting that they received proper code and alarm was set off due to burnt popcorn. 227 Chief held all units in station while he went to confirm. Chief confirmed false alarm, all units returned in service.
Units alerted for a possible CO/Gas condition inside of a residence. Gas company on scene reporting strong smell of gas outside with possitive CO readings but unable to make contact with resident. While fire units enroute, gas company called dispatch back reporting he made contact with the homeowner, requesting all fire units disregard. 221 Squad and 225 Asst continued to the scene to verify. All units returned in service.
Units were alerted for a motor vehicle accident at 107 Nelbon Avenue near the A4 Place Bar. 227 Rescue first on scene reporting no need for rescue or fire units. All units returned in service.
Station 225 was alerted for an automatic fire alarm at the Valmar Apartments on Robinson Boulevard. 225 Truck was first on scene with 225 Captain assuming command. Building was checked and no fire was found. Alarm believed to have been set off due to smoking. Alarm was reset and all units returned in service.
Station 221, 225 alerted for a residential fire alarm activation. Asst 221, squad with 6 and the service with 4 marked on the air. Dispatch advised alarm company received proper code and fire departments can cancel. Asst 221 held units in quarters. Command spoke to contractor on scene advising they were working on a boiler and set off the alarm. All units returned in service.
On Monday afternoon, Station 225, 222, 223, 227 were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment in the area of the Ritzland Shopping Center. As R-227 was pulling on scene, PD reported no entrapment, two patients with minor injuries. R-227 provided BLS care for the patients until PH EMS arrived on scene and contained vehicle fluids. All other fire units disregarded.
Units alerted for a commercial fire alarm. 227 Engine first on scene requesting all other units return in service. False alarm.
Units dispatched for a strong smell of natural gas outside of the residence. 221 Squad first on scene reporting evacuation in progress. Command reporting gasoline leaking from a vehicle to be the problem, not natural gas. All units returned into service.
Units dispatched for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the area of the Giant Eagle on Frankstown road. 225 Captain first on scene reporting correct location to be on Verona Road in the area of Graham Blvd Extension. No need for rescue. Call held with 225SVC and returning all others. Police and EMS to handle the call.
Units were alerted for a residential structure fire at 196 Suncrest Drive. 221SQ first on scene with 221 Assistant taking command. Command reporting was a grease fire on the stove, fire is out, smoke condition only. Held 221SQ on scene for ventilation and returned all other units. Once house was ventilated, command was terminated and all units returned into service.
